Heaven must be rejoicing with the harmonic sound of trumpets and the pleasant voices of angels welcoming one of God’s warriors home! Family, friends, colleagues, and co-workers alike must be torn with both sorrow and praise, thanking God for the opportunity to know, love, and appreciate Sylvia Rhodes Reese for the time that God chose to share her with us before she departed her earthly home to rest with the Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 8, 2022.
Sylvia Rhodes Reese was born to the late Meredith and Willie May Rhodes on November 22, 1951 in Sparta, Georgia. She was the eldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie P. Reese; her parents, Meredith and Willie Mae Rhodes; sister, Connie; brother, Eddie Roy; and grandson, Erick Louis-Charles.
Sylvia was educated in the Hancock County public school system and graduated from Hancock Central High School. She moved to Chicago in 1987. After experiencing the life in the cold weather of Chicago, she moved back to Sparta, Georgia in 1998.
Sylvia was a joy and comfort to many people in her community and many other places that she worked or volunteered her time. She was an entrepreneur, caterer, and the best cook in Georgia. She enjoyed fellowshipping with her family and church members, traveling with friends, making her famous Thanksgiving dressing, shopping on QVC, volunteering at the Senior Citizen center, and caring for Hunts’ Chapel church family.
Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Tracy Diane Cummings and Buffy Michele Cummings Stubbs (Larry) of Illinois; two sisters, Shirley Rhodes Ingram (Harry) of Sparta, Georgia and Pastor Brenda Greene (Willie) of Hephzibah, Georgia; one brother, Darrell Rhodes (Betty) of Sparta, Georgia. Two Step-sons, Willie P. Reese, Jr. (Dorothy) and Darrell Reese; three step daughters, Kimberly Reese, Michelle Reese, and Valerie Reese; Aunts, Viola Harris, Annie P. Jones, Clineetee (Arthur) McKibbeans, and Irene Peterson. One granddaughter, Kennedy Sylvia Michele Cummings; Great granddaughter, Brooke Louis-Charles; 16 grand children and 23 great grandchildren; Special friends, Elizabeth Hargrove, Annie Ruth Stanton, Barbara Lawrence, Louise Tucker, Shirley Rhodes, and Anna Lou Scott; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 14, 2022/ 1PM at Hunts Chapel AME.
Visitation will be Friday May 13, 2022 from 2pm until 5pm at Ingram Brothers Funeral Home.
