Deshango Stokes Obituary

Mr. Deshango Vantau Stokes of Sparta, GA, transitioned to his final rest on Sunday, April 21, 2022. Public Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 1:30pm - 6:00pm, Ingram Brothers Chapel. Funeral arrangements will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, 1:00pm, New Greensprings AME Church, Sparta, GA. Interment will follow at the New Greensprings AME Church Cemetery.

Deshango Vantau Stokes was born April 10, 1979 in Greensboro, GA.  He was the eighth born of eight children to the late Eva Kate Stokes.  In his early life around age 16 years, he was employed at Horton Homes, where he worked many years; then later, Hudson Plantation for 19 years.  He was a current employee at Legacy Homes.

Shango devoted his time to family and friends who loved him most and he was very protective of his love ones.  He loved making people laugh and showing them a good time.  Shango was known by four names: Shan, Shango, Shanghi, and the #1 Stunn Man by all that knew him well.  He was like a brother to a lot of people who grew to love him dearly.

On April 21, 2024, Deshango entered into a quiet eternal rest with God.  He was proceeded in death by his mother, Eva K. Stokes, one sister, Vivian Copeland, two brothers, Wallace Stokes, Sr. and Carlton Stokes, two brother-in-laws, William Copeland, III and Russell Jackson, two grandparents, Nottie Lee Lawrence and Lee Macon Lawrence, three uncles, Bobby Lawrence, Adam Lawrence and Lee Lawrence, one nephew Derek Stokes, Jr.

Shango leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter Champealla Stokes of Sparta, GA; two grandchildren, Haisley Stokes and Kaizer Warren; two sisters, Glenda Copeland of Sparta, GA, Marcia (Erwin) Jackson of Eatonton, GA; two brothers; Derek (Stephanie) Stokes of Covington, GA, Tamari Stokes of Eatonton, GA; two sister-in-laws: Annie Stokes of Greensboro, GA, Audrey Stokes of Atlanta, GA; one brother-in-law, Leon Copeland of Sparta, GA; two uncles; Nathan (Annette) Lawrence and Oliver Lawrence both of Sparta, GA; ten nieces, eight nephews, ten great-nephews, and six great-nieces; one sister and  two brothers from another mother, Mattie Jackson, Dennis Jackson and Patrick Knox; a devoted cousin and friend Phillip Lawrence and Kenneth Brookins.  He was forever grateful for his daughter’s mother Angela Monique.
