Reflections - And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:3

Bobby "Billy" Devereux was born March 22, 1943, to the late Martha Devereux and Foster Blount of Sparta, GA  and gained heavenly wings on March 1, 2023.

He proclaimed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the St. Lewis CME Church, where in earlier years he served as Trustee and in later years as Chairman of the Steward Board.  Billy enjoyed extending the welcome to St Lewis with a big smile and these words. "You are welcome to St. Lewis whenever the doors are open.  But when they are closed, you are not welcome!"

He was an independent man, and a proud member of the 1967, Hancock County Night School System Class.

Bobby's life demonstrated that hard work and service to fellow travelers on life's journey pays off.  He was a diligent and dedicated employee of Georgia Pacific in Monticello, GA for 35 years.  By retirement, he was one of the first Black union representatives of the Industrial Mechanics at Georgia Pacific.  Following retirement, fishing was high among his leisurely pursuits, as were watching the Atlanta Braves baseball team, football and basketball.

On June 26, 1965, Bobby married Susie Amos, and they raised a beautiful family together.

Preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ossie Devereux Franklin, two brother-ln-laws; David Lee Dixon and Robert Amos.  Bobby leaves to cherish his love and memories: his loving wife of 57 years, Susie Devereux of Sparta, GA; nine children: Lester Amos (Ann) of College Park, GA; Cheryl Harden of Sparta, GA; Schley Devereux(Shelia) of Atlanta, GA: Doris Devereux-Martin, Riverdale, GA; Jerome Warren(Regina) of Sandersville, GA; Debby Devereux Payne, Riverdale, GA; Tony Devereux (Andrea)  of Winder, GA; Admirol Devereux(Valencia) of Milledgeville, GA; and LaShangra Lewis(Patrick) of Conyers, GA; two sisters: Gertrude Ann Dixon, and Dorothy Chatman, Sparta, GA; one son-in-law Tyrone Payne, Douglasville, GA; a devoted daughter-in-law Carol Devereux, Riverdale, GA; two brother-in-laws; Tyrone Franklin, Warrenton, GA and Jimmy Chatman, Milledgeville; two sister-in-laws, Esther Davis(Ulysses) of Decatur, GA, and Eva Pearl Amos, College Park, GA.  Bobby was blessed to have 14 wonderful grandchildren, seven beautiful great-grandchildren, a goddaughter, Patricia Robinson, College Park, GA; very special friends: Herbert Monroe, Mark Smith, and Nahman Baker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family friends.
